Coed Flag Week 5 Recap By Baruch "Bucky" Apisdorf
Another dashing week of co-ed flag football, with incredible moments of athleticism, lots of sports and a dramatic last-second win from WTF, which put them over Crave, ending the game at 7-0.
In the Drunkin Donuts first game they came out looking like they had one too many drinks and quickly fell behind the undefeated Remember the Tightans. Starting out strong with some stellar defense from the Singer Sisters and one crazy bobbling interception from Aviva Singer made the non existent crowd fall silent. From that moment forward the Tightans wouldn’t loosen up and the Donuts just kept going in circles. One running touchdown and two passing touchdowns from Moshe Shear led the Tightans to a 29-12 win. But the night wasn’t over for the Drunkin Donuts as they had a double header heading their way.
The Donuts seemed to have sobered up by the time their second game came around and started out hot vs the Red Hot Julius Peppers. The Donuts seemed ready to go and almost immediately took a bite out of RHJP with a quick score, A TD from QB Ari Rosenberg to Avi Epstien, putting them up 7-0. Shortly thereafter, with some tight and true “sport sport” defense, Donuts got a safety, putting the score at 9-0 Donuts. RHJP brushed this off like a dilly-dallying fly on one's shoulder and quickly drove up the field better than you might imagine a Drunken Donut can drive, (is drunken donut a Canadian thing…? Find out next week!). Though RHJP had an admirable drive they were stopped like the British at Gallipoli (google it). Incessantly RHJP threw themselves against the hard defense of the Donuts, but score they did not. In a brutal last-minute drive, RHJP was so close to a touchdown that they could almost smell it, sadly, they did not score. A last second drive by the Donuts and a deep touchdown to a handsome, rugged looking JJ Feig led to a 21-0 win for the Donuts, their first win of the season.
