Week six of co-ed flew by this week like a Malaysian airlines flight, nowhere to be found. The two dominant teams, WTF and Remember the Tightans faced off this week in a tale fit for the likes of the Odyssey or the Iliad.
The Tightans came out strong and on the first drive QB Moshe Shear threw a touchdown to a particular kilted man, Naftali 'Winni' Winnicour, putting the score 7-0. WTF, the reigning champs quickly drove upfield and Gidon Hazony got a slam dunk, home run, of a touchdown to put the score at 7-6. For the first time this season, the Tightans could smell the fear of defeat lingering over the field but they banished that smell to the place where banished things go, ( I'm pretty sure that's Old Kraft, but also I made that up). It was a fiercely fought game but in the end the chastity belt of a defense that the Tightans had was just too good and like a trojan horse they broke down the walls of WTFs usually impeccable offense. Nimble and fleet-footed Yaakov Rabbinowitz had a fantastic over the shoulder TD, but it just wasn't enough because our aforementioned Winni pulled another trick out of his kilt and scored the winning touchdown for the Tightans, ending the game at 22-13 Tightans.
In our game of the week for this Tuesday, we had Gronk Spikes Cause Deflation facing off against the Crave Munchers. Though Crave was majorly lacking personnel they made up for it in spirit, bringing everything they had to the field. Crave started the game careening downfield with a look of wild ferocity, sadly that all came to a halt when out of the nowhere, a young Simmy Peritzman picked the ball off and flipped the momentum like a coin. GSCD and the [Yitzy] Fox-Peritzman duo quickly put points on the board making the score 6-0 GSCD. Crave got the ball back and this time they didn't look so willing to hand it over, with a TD from newcomer Tuvia 'Tuvi' Abell. I digress, neither team was able to get the extra point making the score 6-6. Yitzy, leading GSCD was looking a bit flustered by the unceasing rushing of Nachum “The Bull” Aranov, and GSCD couldn't pull a second scoring drive before the end of the first half. GSCD started the second half with the ball and ran down the field straight into a brick wall of a defense, going nowhere. Crave got the ball back and you can tell they could feel that winning energy that has been slipping through their fingers for the past couple weeks. They drove hard, they drove straight, but into the end zone, they did not drive. Yet again, GSCD had another opportunity to shoot some football hoops AKA a touchdown, this time, they did, 13-6 GSCD. Mere minutes on the clock and Crave comes a knockin with a touchdown but they need the extra point, unfortunately Tuvi did not come down with the ball. Final score 13-12 GSCD over Crave.
In our other games, The Cougars came out strong on all sides of the ball with two picks by Daniel Hook and on the offensive side Chaim Weinberg had two touchdowns. Sacks and the City just could not recover and succumbed to a 27-13 defeat.
As We move into the end of the season there is neck to neck competition leaving everyone wondering ( by everyone I mean like the sixty people in this league) leaving all 60 of us wondering who will take the co-ed bowl this year. To find out, stick around for the final weeks of “Sport Sport”. – By Baruch 'Bucky' Apisdorf
