The Quarter finals Of The FM Home Loans AFI League was a historical night of playoff football.   The weather was pleasant as fans packed in at Kraft Stadium to cheer on their favorite teams.  Most games were nail-bitters coming down to the last drives of the game.  The evening proved to be a night where heart overrides talent and having the better players does not always translate into victories.  The legendary night featured two major upsets, hard hitting, close calls, and game winning plays that will be talked about all week long.  The season comes down to four teams who are looking to fulfill their goals and hold the 30th FM Home Loans AFI League Holy Land Bowl Trophy.

 

Chaikel Travel Vs Englewood

Both teams came out fired up on a unique Wednesday night playoff matchup.  Englewood kept it close early on in the game versus the defending Champions.  Chaikel Travel pulled away in the second half behind stellar play from their quarterback Avi Zern and beat Englewood 49-12 to advance to the Semi-Finals.

Mercaz Moosen Vs DEC

Mercaz Moosen jumped out to 14-0 lead and looked poised to upset a talented DEC squad.  DEC used a block punt and an interception touchdown to retake the lead 24-21 right before halftime.  The Moosen fought back from down 30-21 to eventually tie the game at 36-36 with under two minutes left.  DEC pulled off a beautiful punt that pinned the Moosen back at their own two yardline.   The next play resulted in a fumbled snap, which turned into a game winning safety for DEC who won 38-36 in an historical quarterfinal game.

Pizzeria Efrat Vs Psychobunny’s

Pizzeria Efrat entered the game missing some of their top players in a must win game.  Pizzeria scored twice right before halftime to lead 24-13 going into the second half.  The Psychobunny’s defense held Pizzeria in check as their offense scored twice to give them a 25-24 lead with under a minute left in the game.  Pizzeria Efrat drove down the field and scored on a fourth and goal to shock the league and complete the upset over the Psychobunny’s 30-25.

Shana Bet Bochurim Vs Toras Chaim

Shana Bet Bochurim looked to continue their cinderlla playoff run against a tough Toras Chaim Squad.  Even though Toras Chaim missed many opportunities, they still went into the second half leading 14-6.  The Bochurim’s offense exploded in the second half behind playmakers Isaac Laifer and Joey Mogilner who both scored touchdowns in a comeback upset 26-14 victory over Toras Chaim.
