Week eight of The FM Home Loans AFI League had top teams facing off one another with playoff seeding on the line. Many teams had trouble capitalizing on opportunities to win games. Many teams continued their winning streak while others started one. Games came down to the last play of the game. There were many plays that will be talked about all week long in the lunchroom. The final stretch of the 30th FM Home Loans AFI League regular season has begun as all teams focus on the playoffs and raising The Holy Land Bowl.
Big Blue (7-4-1) VS BMF Falcons (7-5)
The Falcons Won game one in shutout fashion 14-0 behind quarterback Yosef Rudansky’s two throwing touchdown passes. Big Blue bounced back in game two in big part to their defensive secondary play led by Jerome Wojtalik who had an interception touchdown to help Big Blue to a shutout game two victory 12-0.
Mercaz Moosen (3-8-1) VS DEC (8-3-1)
DEC continued their hot streak behind touchdowns from Nathan Japhet and Gidon Hazony in a game one win 20-14. DEC’s power run offense proved too much for the struggling Mercaz squad who got defeated in game two 13-6.
The Deep Sleepers (7-5) VS West Hempstead Rams (2-7-3)
The Deep Sleepers came out strong in game with touchdowns from Avi Katz, Zachary Thurm, Shua Guwertiz, and a game sealing safety from Mordechai Amoyelle to win game one 26-13. The Rams offense couldn’t get anything going in game two, losing in shutout fashion 32-0.
Chaikel Travel (10-2) VS Jerrys Kids (7-7)
Ab Reznick’s two touchdowns proved to be the difference in a game one victory by Chaikel Travel 13-6. The defending champions offense exploding in game two, winning easily over Jerrys Kids 26-0.
Silly Salmon (1-12-1) VS Big Production (12-0)
Big Production continued their impressive undefeated season with two shutout victories over Silly Salmon, 36-0 and 18-0.
Psychobunny’s (7-4-1) VS Toras Chaim (7-3-2)
Toras Chaim scored on their opening drive with a touchdown from Shmuli Sauer which proved to be enough as they held off the Psychobunny’s 7-6 in game one. Psychobunny’s looked in control in game two with the ball and a 6-0 lead with under twenty seconds in the game when their punter was sacked before he could punt the ball which left Toras Chaim with one play left in the game. Toras Chaim was able to score a touchdown to shock the Psychobunny’s and salvage a game two tie 6-6.
Bayberry Broncos (7-4-1) VS Englewood (7-3-2)
Englewoods combo of quarterback Asaf Miller to wide receiver Jake Schwalbe proved to be too much in game one for the Broncos as Englewood won game one 18-12. The Broncos stormed back in game two behind quarterback Amiel Kerstein to a 15-12 victory.
Vintage Vikings (8-4-2) VS Mud Dogs (4-7-1)
The Vikings brought the heat versus a struggling Mud Dogs squad as wide receiver Binny Edell’s two receiving touchdowns helped his team win game one 14-0. Nussie Felder’s three touchdown passes helped the Vikings to a game two 21-0 victory.
