Week Eleven of the FM Home Loans AFI League was a week of top tier teams taking care of business. With the playoffs fast approaching the top teams in the league showed why they deserve the top spots in the playoff seeding. Many lower tier teams faced off one another with a playoff seed on the line. The fans fought off the chilly Jerusalem weather, packing the stands at Kraft Stadium.
Chaikel Travel (11-5) Looked to continue their impressive winning streak vs the competitive Sting Nation (7-7) in the opener. Chaikel Travel’s offense came prepared as quarterback Shuey Dachs threw three touchdowns to all-star wide receiver Yoni Panigel for an easy 30-15 game one win. Sting Nation had no answer for the Chaikel Travel’s offense in game two as quarterback Shuey Dachs threw for three touchdowns and rushed for one score to guide his confident team to a blowout 28-0 victory.
The Defending Champion Imrei Hillbillies (12-4) squared off against the struggling Mishaan Plumbing (1-10-1) team. Hillbillies quarterback Naftali Fagan connected with his favorite target Ari Rokach for three touchdowns in an impressive game one win 26-12. Mishaan Plumbing came fighting back in game two with two quick touchdown passes from quarterback Jack Sayegh to wide receivers Joey Yedid and Benny Levy to give Mishaan Plumbing a quick 13-0 lead over the defending champs. The Hillbillies fought back with two quick scores of their own to take the lead 14-13. Mishaan drove down the field with a massive upset insight, but Hillbillies defender Sruli Rubin took an interception back for a touchdown to give the Hillbillies a 20-13 lead. After another Touchdown reception from Joey Yedid, Mishaan Plumbing was unable to convert the extra-point and fell short to the Hillbillies 20-19.
The veteran Piazzeria Efrat (10-5-1) continued their winning way vs the Eretz Hatzvi Bucks (0-13-1). Pizzeria Efrat’s quarterback Bibi Goodman connected with wide receiver Akiva Rindenow for two touchdowns in helping his team win game one 27-0. The Bucks had trouble scoring vs the stellar Pizzeria Efrat’s defense in both games, getting shutout again in game two 26-0.
The 305 (5-11) battled with the rising Big Blue (4-11-1) squad. 305’s quarterback Avi Stein found his favorite target Shmuel Kahn for three touchdowns in a surprising 20-0 shutout victory over Big Blue. Big Blue bounced back in game two, with quarterback Jerome Wojtalik finding his rhythm and connecting with wide receivers Zachi Silas, Josh Hauser, and Adar Raz for touchdowns in a convincing 18-7 game two victory.
The Dominant Psycho Bunny’s (12-3-1) clashed with the feisty Camp Kobe (7-7-2) team in the FM Home Loans AFI League Game Of The Week. Psycho Bunny’s struck first in game one after quarterback Larry Ganz found wide receiver Chatz Katz in the end zone to put the Bunny’s ahead 8-0. Camp Kobe fought back with quarterback Tzvika Septimus throwing a touchdown pass to wide receiver Adi Ifergan to narrow the lead to 8-6. The Bunny’s drew up a little trickery with wide receiver Chatz Katz throwing a touchdown pass to wide receiver Shua Weiss to seal the deal in a 15-12 game one win. It was all Psycho Bunny’s in game two as wide receivers Chatz Katz and Aryeh Bogopulsky pulled in five touchdown receptions together to lead the Psycho Bunny’s to a 32-12 victory.
The Talented Buds Reliable Care (6-10) bounced back from last week vs a slumping Lev Mordechai (3-13) team. Bud’s Quarterback Shea Weill looked comfortable in the pocket, throwing two touchdown passes to wide receiver Yosef Kasper in winning game one 20-0. The Bud’s defense looked sharp under Captain Mordechai Amoyelle, racking up numerous sacks and interceptions in the 19-0, game two shutout victory.
The popular Joe’s Eagles (9-6-1) made a statement vs the Big Kabbalah Brand (5-10-1) squad. Joe’s Eagles wide receiver Yonaton Atkin had one rushing and one receiving touchdown in guiding his team to an easy 25-0 game one win. Big Kabbalah Brand looked for answers, but could not find any in game two as they took another shutout loss to the Joe’s Eagles 20-0.
The Fiery Charoses (6-10) took on the testy TJ’s Amudim (5-9) in the finally. TJ’s Amudim’s quarterback Rafi Hersher found wide receiver Moshe Reches in the end zone to put his team out on front 6-0. Late in the game Charoses quarterback Sendy Goldstein threw a game winning touchdown to Sam Wachtel for a 7-6 victory over the TJ’s Amudim. In the second game both teams scored quickly to put the game at 6-6. Neither team was able to put up more points as the game ended in a 6-6 draw.
Week Eleven of the FM Home Loans AFI League brought the best out in teams looking to go into the playoffs on a hot streak. Top tier teams were hitting their stride blowing out some of the lower tier teams. Few games are left for lower tier teams to make a last attempt to go on a winning streak and sneak into the playoffs. The anticipation is growing by the day for the 29th playoffs of the FM Home Loans AFI League and the chance to be crowned The Holy land Bowl Champions.
