Championship game – Feb. 18th
The 2018-2019 WAFI season has been building up to this highly anticipated night, and the crowds filled up the Kraft stadium bleachers, ready to cheer on their teams to victory. After a quick warm up and an exciting team award ceremony, our top 2 teams were ready to battle it out to be crowned WAFI Champions!
ISP-ELIEZER MOVERS vs. BIG BLUE
The game kicked off with strong defensive drives from both teams, and no points scored until ISP’s Margalit Abell intercepted a ball, which led to a TD scored by Aliza Zalcman and EP by Noa Goldrich. Big Blue were fast to recover with a TD by Daniella Brown, but the EP attempt was blocked. Back on offense, ISP-Eliezer Movers QB Ilana Frankel threw a long TD pass to Kellley Newel, and Noa yet again secured the EP. Just before halftime, Ilana Frankel ran the ball in for another TD for ISP.
After a short break, during which Racheli Lipner was announced as League MVP, Big Blue and ISP came back pumped and hungry for more points. Big Blues’ QB Roni Kahn was incredible under the pressure of ISP’s rushers, and despite getting sacked by Racheli Abell and Adina Berkowitz, Roni kept throwing beautiful long passes to Daniella Friedman, who got first downs all night long and scored another TD for Big Blue. ISP-Eliezer Movers remained calm and Noa Goldrich caught an amazing pass and scored a TD, with Racheli Abell securing the EP. Big Blue’s Daniella Friedman scored another TD, and soon after ISP’s Avi Goldrich scored a TD in the endzone after the ball was tipped. With less than a minute left in the game, Big Blues’ Ora Gold swooped in with an incredible catch and ran down the entire field to score another TD, and Nechama Brickner secured the extra point. Back on offense, ISP ran out the clock, and the intense competitive game finally came to a close with a 34-25 win for ISP-Eliezer Movers, crowning them champions for the second year in a row!
