Quarter Finals – Jan. 28th
The quarter-finals of the WAFI league approached with a roar of thunder and heavy showers, but no amount of rain would stop the players from giving it their all and fighting for a spot in the semi-finals!
BIG BLUE vs. MISHAAN
As always, both Big Blue and Mishaan played strong defensive games, with amazing flag pulls by Big Blues’ Elisheva Marcus, Atara Klein and Livia Nulman, and Mishaans’ Rhonda Lloyd and Sarah Schwartz. On offense, QBs Roni Kahn and Ayala Farkas battled the rain and threw incredible passes. The first half of the game had many close calls for both teams, all stopped just short of a TD until finally, Big Blue’s Daniella Brown scored the first TD of the night, but the extra point attempt was blocked by Mishaan. Mishaans’ QB Ayala kept her cool under Big Blues’ rushers, the Brickner twins, while Mishaans’ rusher Ayala Mandelbaum succeeded in sacking Big Blues’ QB. On defense, Tziporah Hornstein caught an interception, while on offense Adrian Vinson had an amazing catch as the ball was tipped by Sarah Schwartz. Meanwhile, Big Blues’ Nechama Brickner ran the ball down the field for another TD, and Elisheva Marcus secured the extra point. With the game nearing its end, Daniella Friedman swooped in with a beautiful catch and scored another TD, resulting in a 19-0 win for Big Blue.
ISP-ELIEZER’S MOVERS vs. ORLI PRINT
ISP-Eliezer’s Movers started their first offensive play of the night with a TD run in by Racheli Abell, and Kelley Newell caught the extra point. Orli Print had a great drive, with Neely Saker and Adiella Cohnen catching and moving the ball along, only to be intercepted by Sharona Abell. Right before the first half ended, Sharona caught another TD and Avi Goldrich (who killed it on defense with the flag pulls) secured the extra point. The second half kicked off with a pick-6 snatched up by Kelley Newell, and Kelley got the 2 point conversion. Orli Print kept their wits and ran the ball all the way to the end zone, but their attempt at a TD was blocked by Racheli Abell. Racheli moves on to offense and catches another TD pass, with Aliza Berkowitz bringing in the 2 extra points. Both teams’ defenses work overtime, with great blocking and flag pulling by ISP’s Sharona and Racheli Abell, and Orli Prints’ Adiella Cohnen and the Tesler sisters. With one more offensive drive left in the game, ISPs’ QB Ilana Frankel runs the ball across the field for a TD and Kelley catches the 2 point conversion, and the game ends with a 36-0 win for ISP-Eliezer’s Movers.
SO METRO vs. EDEN’S EAGLES
Ready to battle it out once more after last weeks’ close game, So Metro and Eden’s Eagles clashed it out with pure determination. The 40-minute long game was filled with beautiful catches, interceptions, flag pulls and blockings galore, but unfortunately for both teams- no touchdowns. Rusher Miki G of So Metro had 2 amazing sacks, and Eden’s Eagles’ Tziri Goldring had one. Interceptions were caught by So Metro’s Gaelle Gonzalez and Eden’s Eagles’ Nitzana Strous and Lyla Zucker. The game came to a close with a 0-0 tie and it was officially time for overtime! So Metro won the coin toss and was first up for the chance to put an end to the game, and finally, Racheli Matis-Goldsmith did just that, as she caught the ball and ran it in for a TD. The Eagles were up for their attempt to score, but So Metros’ defense wouldn’t let up, and the game ended with a 6-0 win for So Metro.
The last quarter final game ended before it even began with NYBs unfortunate forfeit to secure Harvey's Smokehouse a spot in the semi finals.
Two big games happening next Monday night!!
