Week 7 – Dec. 24th
SO METRO vs. ORLI PRINT
These two teams may not have much in common, but they both show amazing sportsmanship, great defense skills, and an all around good attitude. So Metro kicked off the night with a beautiful TD pass thrown by QB Chana Abrams and caught by Racheli Matis, who also caught the extra point. QB Abrams kept Orli Prints’ defense busy, and interceptions were caught by Zahava Lipman and Eta Cohnen. So Metros’ defense was just as tight, as they wouldn’t allow any points to be made by Orli Print, and Racheli Matis intercepted a pass thrown by Orli’s QB Adiella Cohnen. With one more TD scored by Tamar Brown, and the extra point caught by Ronit Reichel, the first game ended with a 14-0 win for So Metro.
Game 2 had both teams kicking their defense up a notch, with no points scored for the majority of the game, until So Metro’s Tamar Brown caught a TD pass, but the extra point attempt was blocked by Orli Print. Interceptions were caught by So Metros’ Racheli Matis and Orli Prints’ Eta Cohnen. Final score: 6-0 win for the Metro girls.
HARVEY’S SMOKEHOUSE vs. EDEN’S EAGLES
With Harveys Smokehouses’ QB, Cindy Scarr, out for the night, Bayla Greenblum had big shoes to fill and tensions were high all around. However, QB Bayla knocked it out of the Park! (wrong sport? wrong sport..) Rivka Weinberg caught 3 amazing TD passes, and Eli Baumol caught 1. Extra points were scored by Atara Reichel, Rivka Weinberg and Eli Baumol. Eli also killed it on defense, with 2 interceptions- one resulting in a pick-6, and Merav Barish snatched an interception as well. Of course, as aggressive as Harvey’s defense was, Eden’s Eagles wouldn’t go down without a fight. Kayla Singer caught an incredible pass and ran it in for a TD. Final score 33-6 win for Harvey’s Smokehouse.
The Eagles definitely kicked into high gear during their second game, with beautiful passes caught by Kayla Singer and Nitznana Strous. As the Eagles’ defense tightened, Harvey’s Smokehouse matched their effort and were able to score a TD, caught by Rivka Weinberg. And it turns out, Bayla Greenblum isn’t only an amazing QB fill-in, but she proved herself to be a terrific rusher, as she managed to sack and pressure Eden’s Eagles QB. Rivka Weinberg scored another TD, Eli Baumol caught the extra point (as well as another interception), and the game ended with a 13-0 win for Smokehouse.
NYB vs. MISHAAN
This game was definitely worth watching, and it was the most intense one so far! Teams NYB and Mishaan both played insanely strong defensive games, and flags were pulled all night long. NYB’s QB Rena Rabhan was able to throw beautiful passes, despite having an injured arm, but eventually Mishaan’s rusher, Tirza Wilner, caught up with her and managed to sack her twice. With only 10 seconds left in the game and no points on the scoreboard whatsoever, NYB’s Deena Hornstein caught a pass and ran it in for a TD. Daniella Kaplansky caught the extra point, resulting in a 7-0 win for NYB.
Mishaan started game 2 strong, with every intention of beating their rivals. On defense, Tzipora Hornstein intercepted the ball, which led Sarah Schwartz to catch Mishaans’ first TD. NYB put up quite the fight and blocked many passes, but eventually Ayala Farkas caught an amazing pass, not even using her hands, and ran it in for another TD. Ayala also had a great defensive game as she sacked NYB’s QB. Final score: 12-0 win for Mishaan.
DB BANDITS vs. WILDKATZ
Who doesn’t love a competitive Seminary Showdown?!
DB Bandits might’ve had a rough start, with the Wildkatz scoring a TD by Talya Moskowitz, but after a while the bandits got back into the groove. Rushers Faigy Rubinoff and Ashira hertzfeld had a great game, sacking the Wildkatz’ QB Racheli Lipner. However, Lipner kept her cool and threw another gorgeous TD pass, caught by Miriam Gutfreund. The DB Bandits had some great catches by Rosie Solomon and Sari Fein, but the Wildkatz defense blocked all touchdown attempts, and Adina Drapkin intercepted. Final score: 12-0 win for Wildkatz.
The second game started with a bang, as DB Bandits’ Rina Koegel scored an incredible TD. The Wildkatz were quick to recover with a TD of their own, caught by Shira Kalnitz. DB Bandits were still on a high from the previous drive, and QB Shiri Pachino connected with Rina Koegel for 2 more TDs. Despite a strong defense, the wildkatz scored another TD as well, and secured the extra points, but the game soon came to an end, with an 18-14 win for DB Bandits- their first victory of the season!
ISP-ELIEZER MOVERS vs. BIG BLUE
Battling against the undefeated ISP-Eliezer Movers is no easy feat, but Big Blue is always up for a challenge! During their first drive, Big Blues’ Daniella Friedman caught a fantastic pass by QB Roni Kahn, and ran it across the entire field for the first TD of the night. ISP Eliezers Movers stepped it up a notch with a nice flag pull by Margie, followed by a sack by Ilana Frankel.
Both teams had very strong defenses, blocking off any attempts to score. Big Blue’s defenders Livia Nulman, Ora Gold and Elisheva Marcus did an amazing job pulling flags. After a few unsuccessful drives, with less than a minute left to the game, Eliezers Movers finally managed to get the ball past the 30 with a beautiful catch by Racheli Abell. Noa Goldrich then advanced the ball with a catch and Aliza zalchman sealed the deal with a TD, allowing Racheli to get the Extra Point, resulting in a 7-6 win for ISP-Eliezer Movers.
Game 2 started with ISP on offense, and they clearly got into the zone, with a catch by Aliza Zalcman, followed by a TD run in by QB Ilana Frankel. On Big Blue Ooffense, QB Roni Kahn was great under the pressure of the rushers, and threw direct passes to Ora Gold, Daniella Friedman, Yehudit Brickner and Daniella Brown. ISP/Eliezer Movers’ defense really held it together, with flag pulls by Sharona Abell and Avi Goldrich, and balls being knocked down by Adina Berkowitz, Racheli and sharona Abell. With one minute left, ISP offense took the field for what they thought would be their last drive. Racheli advanced the ball with a run, but Big Blue defense continued to hold strong, with Atara Klein, Elisheva Marcus and Daniella Friedman pulling flags. But ISPs’ Aliza Zalcman brought in the catch for the 1st down, allowing them to continue their drive and for Aliza to catch a TD pass, with Noa Goldrich securing the extra point.
Back on defense, ISP-Eliezer Movers’ Racheli Abell intercepted the ball, giving Ilana Frankel the chance she needed to run the ball down the field, resulting in a 3rd TD, and with less than 2 seconds to the game Adina caught the extra point, ending the game with a 20-0 win for ISP/Eliezers Movers.
