Week 9 – Jan. 7th
ISP-ELIEZER'S MOVERS vs. EDEN’S EAGLES
Game 1 kicked off at high speed, with Eden’s Eagles on offense making progress down the field, only to be stopped short with an interception-turned-pick-6, caught by ISP’s Ilana Frankel. Back on offense, the Eagles retaliated with a TD of their own, caught by Nitzana Strous. With ISP-Eliezer Movers on their first offensive drive, managing to advance the ball past 40 yards with a great catch and run by Adina Berkowitz, Eden’s Eagles’ tight defense finally stopped her in her tracks. Eliezer’s Movers kept their defense strong for the remainder of the game, with flags pulled by Margalit Abell and Avi Goldrich, and balls knocked down by Kelly Newell and Adina Berk. On offense, Avi Goldrich and Aliza Zalcman both ran the length of the field for 2 more TDs. Adina Berkowitz caught another interception, granting ISP one last chance to score- and they did just that, with a TD pass to Kelly Newell, extra point by Racheli Abell. Final score: 25-6 win for ISP-Eliezer’s Movers.
Their second game of the night brought Eden’s Eagles some reinforcement in the form of Sarah Lasky who definitely aided to their fight, knocking down deep passes and pulling flags on defense. But Eliezers Movers kicked it up a notch as well, with TDs caught by Kelly Newell (1) and Aliza Zalcman (2), extra points caught by Adina, Kelly and Aliza, and another great pick-6 by Racheli Abell. Avi goldrich snatched an interception and came real close to scoring another pick-6 but was stopped just shy of a TD. Final score: 30-0 win for ISP.
EDEN’S EAGLES vs. NYB
The Eagles may not have had the best game against ISP, but they seemed determined to stay upbeat against their second opponents of the night, NYB. Sure enough, Nitzana Strous was able to score a TD and Shoshie Lipkin secured an extra point. Meanwhile NYB’s Daniella Kaplansky scored a TD, and the game ended with a 7-6 win for Eden’s Eagles.
Game 2 kept NYB’s QB Rena Rabhan busy, and she threw beautiful passes all night, with amazing catches all around. Deena Hornstein and Bracha Rosenberg scored a TD each, and Tova Rabhan scored 2 TDs, as well as 2 extra points. On defense, NYB was just as strong and both Tova and Deena intercepted the ball, but the Edens’ Eagles were still able to fight their way through for 2 TDs, caught by Nitzana Strous and Tziri Goldring. Final score: 26-12 win for NYB.
SO METRO vs. MISHAAN
During what might have been the closest, most intense game of the decade, So Metro and Mishaan pulled out all the stops. So Metro’s QB Chana Abrams and Mishaan’s QB Shira Lloyd both threw incredible passes, despite being under pressure of 2 great rushers. So Metro’s rusher, Miki G, was able to sack Mishaan’s QB twice, as did Mishaans rusher, little Ayala Mandelbaum. Both defenses were so tight – and Bella Weill of So Metro intercepted the ball once- that no points were scored during the length of 2 games! Final score for both games: 0-0.
BIG BLUE vs. NYB
The first game between Big Blue and NYB started off with high spirits and great vibes all around. Big Blue’s offense kicked off with an incredible TD pass thrown by QB Roni Kahn, caught by Daniella Friedman, who also caught the extra point. On defense, Ora Gold killed it with a pick-6, and later on in the game she followed suit with another interception, only to secure the TD on offense, and Daniella Brown caught the extra point. Meanwhile, NYB proved to be fierce competitors, blocking passes and pulling flags whenever they could. QB Rena Rabhan threw a gorgeous pass to Tova Rabhan, who ran it in for a TD. Big Blues’ defense held strong, with Meira Jacobowitz, Atara Klein and Elisheva Marcus blocking all other attempts by NYB. Another TD scored by Daniella Friedman, and the game ended with a 28-6 win for Big Blue.
With the second game under way, and with QB Roni Kahn expertly steering clear of NYB’s rusher every time, Big Blue was off to a great start. Yehudit Brickner caught a beautiful pass and ran it in for a TD, but the extra point attempt was blocked by NYB’s defense. Big Blue defense was as strong as ever, and rusher Yehudit Brickner had a great game, sacking QB Rena Rabhan. On offense, with less than a minute left in the game, Nachama Brickner ran the ball in for another TD, and Roni Kahn secured the extra point, thrown by Ora Gold. Final score: 13-0 win for Big Blue.
DB BANDITS vs. HARVEY’S SMOKEHOUSE
The final 2 games of the night couldn’t be more exciting. Harvey’s Smokehouses’ offense proved once more that they mean business, with QB Cindy Scarr throwing beautiful TD passes to Atara Reichel, Merav Barish, and Bayla Greenblum, and Esti Mandel caught 2 extra points. On defense, Rivka Weinberg killed it with the interceptions, and both Rivka and Esti scored a pick-6. Meanwhile, DB Bandits were resilient, and QB Sari Fein threw an awesome TD pass to Rosie Solomon, and Rina Koegel had some great catches as well. Final Score: 33-6 win for Harvey’s Smokehouse.
In Game 2, Harvey’s Smokehouses’ defense was definitely in it to win it: 5 interceptions in total and 2 pick-6s by Tehila Lowenstein and Rivka Weinberg. Smokehouse’s offense was just as impressive: QB Cindy Scarr was on point all night long, with TD passes caught by Atara Reichel and “ballerina” Bayla greenblum. Extra points were scored by Merav Barish, Esti Mandel and Atara Reichel. Final Score: 27-0 win for the smokin’ Smokehouse girls.
